About your neighbourhood

Burridge Gardens is rooted in the history of St John’s Hill, a 1930s Peabody estate beside Clapham Junction in Wandsworth, south-west London. The development takes its name from William Burridge, who owned the land in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, when it served as a market garden supplying London with produce—including the lavender that inspired nearby Lavender Hill.

Peabody acquired the site in 1934 and while these buildings were modernised in the 1970s, a more ambitious vision emerged in 2012, when planning permission was granted to fully regenerate the estate in three phases.

The regeneration replaced the original buildings with over 300 new, high-quality properties, each designed with private outdoor space in mind, alongside a new community centre, commercial units and an extra care scheme. It’s a transformation that goes beyond bricks and mortar, creating a more connected, inclusive neighbourhood for the more than 500 residents who call it home.
