About your neighbourhood
Fish Island Village, often shortened to FIV, is a neighbourhood in Tower Hamlets, North East London.
Home to around 1,050 residents across nearly 600 homes, Fish Island Village was completed in 2021 through a partnership between Peabody and Hill. The neighbourhood offers a range of facilities for residents, including a concierge service, gym and outdoor play area.
Fish Island Village also has 57,000 square feet of workspace and retail units managed by social enterprise The Trampery. These include cafés, restaurants, shops, a barber and a yoga studio all on residents' doorsteps.
The neighbourhood sits alongside the Hertford Union Canal and is part of the wider Fish Island area. The area’s interesting name comes from its history; first becoming known locally as ‘the Island’ in the 1700-1800’s after canals and railway lines separated it from surrounding areas, and having ‘Fish’ added in the 1870s when streets in the area were given fish-themed names such as Dace, Roach and Bream.
