Have you received a letter to move to Universal Credit?
The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) is replacing six benefits with Universal Credit.
Published: 28/10/2025
If you’re currently receiving some of these benefits, you’ll have received a letter from the government, called a migration letter, asking you to switch to Universal Credit. This won’t be automatic, but we can help.
You’ll have to make the switch if you’re receiving:
- Housing Benefits
- Income Support
- Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA)
- Income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
- Child Tax Credit
- Working Tax Credit
If you’re affected, the migration letter will tell you when your benefits end and when you need to apply for Universal Credit by.
If you don’t apply in time and your payments stop - you’ll need to make a new claim for Universal Credit, even if you already receive benefits.
