Nags Head spring clean brings cleaner shared spaces

Nags Head Spring Clean

We joined residents at Nags Head Estate in east London for a big community spring clean, as wider improvements across the neighbourhood continue.

The clean-up was part of the annual Great British Spring Clean, a national campaign where thousands of people across the country get involved in tidying up their local neighbourhoods.

We worked together with Axis, and other local partners to help spruce up communal areas for the longer spring days. Together, we cleared fly-tipped rubbish, picked up litter across green and shared spaces, and helped residents get rid of large unwanted items like sofas and tables.

Working together

Around £3 million is being invested in improvements and repairs across Nag’s Head, focused on maintaining homes and improving shared spaces for residents.

Residents are helping shape this work through the Nags Head co-design group. At monthly workshops, residents share what matters most to them and help to steer the projects and decide where resources are allocated.

Planned improvements include external repairs, maintenance, and upgrades to roofs, drainage, walkways, balconies, and communal areas. Some of this work is already underway or complete.

Cleaning up and looking ahead

On the day of the spring clean, residents used two skips to dispose of bulky items, with one already full by lunchtime.

We also cleared out a former bike store after hearing residents’ feedback. The space is now being prepared for community use. In the short term, it will be used as a potting area for a gardening project and for storing equipment. We will keep working with residents to agree its long-term use, so it best serves the community.

Residents also stopped to chat with teams, ask questions and find out more about the improvements planned for the estate.
