Town Mayor helps residents celebrate 10 years of community at Greenfields later living
Residents at Greenfields later living community in Leighton Buzzard welcomed the new Town Mayor, Cllr Kevin Pughe, to a summer party celebrating the community’s 10th anniversary year.

The barbecue was organised by residents and brought together people living at Greenfields, their families, friends and neighbours for an afternoon of food, music, stalls and raffles. Former Town Mayor Cllr David Bligh also joined the celebrations.
Ahead of the party, local MP Alex Mayer visited Greenfields to meet residents and help put up decorations.
Many of today's residents have lived at Greenfields since it first opened, including Jude who lives with her husband Stewart and says she loves “many aspects of living in a community”.
Jude, who organised the event, said she came up with the idea for the celebrations at Christmas.
“I wanted to get everyone together just like I did when I organised the King’s Coronation celebration and then our VE Day celebrations,” she said. “I find it very cathartic and I seem to have very good organisational skills.”
“The birthday celebration was a fantastic day that brought together many of our community and residents from the neighbouring Roman Gate estate. We all had a wonderful time.
“I hope to continue to organise events here as the joy on people’s faces says it all to me.”
Cllr Kevin Pughe, Town Mayor of Leighton-Linslade said: "It was a pleasure to attend the event at Greenfields and provide a little bit of support on the day."
Local award-winning choir, the Wing Singers, performed to launch the celebrations.
One of the stalls was run by regular visitor Annie, from the charity Dogs for Good, who was selling handmade charity cards. She was joined by her trainee assistance dog Vespa, a 6-month-old retriever Labrador cross. Dogs for Good support a range of people including adults or children with physical disabilities and children with autism.
Greenfields, which we manage, provides later living homes for people aged over 55, with care and support available for residents who need it.
Iain Shaw, Director of Care and Support, Specialist Housing at Peabody, who joined the celebration, said: “A huge thank you to all the residents who helped make the event such a success. It was wonderful to celebrate together and see the sense of friendship and community that has made Greenfields such a welcoming place to live over the past 10 years.”
A second celebration, which we are organising, will take place in November to mark 10 years since Greenfields officially opened.
