Dee Park is in Tilehurst, Reading, about two miles from the city centre. Most of the homes were built in the late 1960s, with more added through the 1970s, 80s, and 90s. The original estate layout made it hard for people to find their way around, with hidden paths, underpasses, and empty buildings that didn’t feel safe.
In 2003, Reading Borough Council started looking for partners to help transform Dee Park, with a promise that no social housing would be lost. Catalyst formed a joint venture with Wilmott Dixon in 2007 and put forward a plan to redevelop the estate. Outline planning permission was given in 2009, and building work for the first phase began in 2010.
By 2023, phase 2C and the new community centre, Dee Space, were finished. Dee Park now has 224 homes, including social rent, shared ownership, and private sale options. Dee Space has become a lively centre for the community, offering a wide range of activities and clubs for local people to enjoy.
