St Olave’s: The site
We have purchased the site of the former St Olave’s nursing home in Southwark and are creating plans to develop 64 new high-quality homes.
We completed the purchase of the former St Olave’s Nursing Home from the NHS in March 2018.
The 0.3-hectare site currently features two vacant buildings: the former nursing home and a temporary building for a former ambulance centre. The site, which is located on Lower Road near Canada Water, is surplus to NHS requirements and the money generated from the sale will be directly reinvested in the NHS.
Transport and amenities
Being situated so closely to Canada Water provides an extensive selection of amenities including retail, leisure, education and commercial facilities. Canada Water is also a key transport hub providing train, tube and bus terminals with connections to central London and the financial district of Canary Wharf. The station is just 5-minutes’ walk from the site.
A walk in the park
The site is located between Lower Road and Southwark Park in the London Borough of Southwark. Southwark is one of London’s greenest boroughs while Southwark Park is one of its largest, covering an area over 60 acres. The park is well equipped with social and sports facilities including a café, large-scale playgrounds, a bowling green, tennis courts and football pitches. It also has a large central lake.
The buildings around the site

Southwark Park wraps itself around the area of the site which includes a variety of buildings.
Immediately beside the site there are large-scale civic buildings along Lower Road, including the Rotherhithe Evangelical Free Church to the north and Seven Islands Leisure Centre just south of the site. There are also five-storey residential mansion blocks and traditional two storey homes closer to Ann Moss Way. Some fragments still exist of the old St Olave’s Hospital, most which was demolished after the 1980s.
The architect’s proposals are designed to work with the existing buildings so that the new development works well with its surroundings, both in terms of design and building height.
