Some people have received fake text messages about winter fuel payments.

The message claims to be from the Government and invites you to apply for a new winter fuel payment.

This is a scam.

You don’t need to apply for the payment. If you're eligible, you'll get it automatically.

What to do if you get the message

• Don’t click on any links
• Don’t share your personal details
• Report the message by forwarding it to 7726 – it's free
• Delete the message

This scam also happened last autumn. Please help others by spreading the word – especially anyone who might be more vulnerable.
