Esther came to a drop-in support session because her PIP application was refused. We helped her appeal the decision and claim the benefits she was eligible for.
“Denise, one of Peabody’s support workers, has been a great help with my Personal Independence Payment (PIP) application.
“I had a fall, which caused a broken hip and subsequent brain surgery. So I applied for the PIP.
“My application was refused and I was told I didn't qualify for a number of reasons. I thought that was an end to the matter.
“But then I spoke to Denise. Although I was officially too late to appeal the decision, Denise took up the challenge.
“She phoned the benefits office and persuaded them to reconsider their decision. She then helped me every step of the way, even offering to attend a court on my behalf if necessary. To be honest, I didn't hold out much hope.
“Imagine my surprise when I found out the decision had been reversed. I would be receiving the payment after all. Also, it was backdated to the time of my original application!
“I can honestly say that without Denise, I would have given up. But her help and advice have really made a positive difference in my life.”
