The celebration, hosted by volunteers from Houghton Regis Helpers, welcomed 40 older residents for the special get together.
Guests enjoyed festive music, joined in with a cheerful singalong, and there was even a surprise visit from Santa and Mrs Claus.
The afternoon brought people together at a time of year when connection is more important than ever and gave them the chance to share a conversation or a story and get to know those around their table.
Every guest received a Christmas card. One guest said: “This is my first one – I’m so grateful.”
The afternoon was enjoyed by all, with the singalong proving a particular highlight.
One resident said: “I wasn’t sure about coming, but I’m so glad I did.”
Another added: “The people on my table were lovely.”
We supported the event via a Better Together- Houghton Regis grant awarded to the Houghton Regis Helpers. This grant scheme is delivered through a partnership with Houghton Regis Community Development Charity (HRCDC). The grant will also provide food and presents for those unable to attend the event ensuring the Christmas cheer reaches even further across our community.
The Houghton Regis - Better Together Small Grants Scheme offers small grants for grassroots projects that benefit the local Houghton Regis community; funding initiatives that emphasize inclusivity, community engagement, and innovation.
Karen Lawson, Our Community Investment Lead, said: “This event was about more than just festive cheer - it was about creating moments of connection and belonging. For many residents, not only older ones; these holidays can feel lonely, so seeing their smiles, hearing their laughter and stories shared was truly special. It’s a reminder that community investment matters, not just at Christmas, but every single day.”
