You’ll share your experience as a Peabody resident and help make sure everyone’s views are heard. Find out more:

Meet the panel

We’re a group of Peabody residents who help make sure residents’ voices influence the services that matter to them.

As residents ourselves, we know our homes and communities better than anyone, and bring that experience to the panel.

Current members Danny, Denise, Geraldine, Ingrid, John and Lisa meet regularly to discuss resident feedback, review decisions and help improve services.

“Being a member of the Resident-Led Panel means being committed to promoting the needs of Peabody residents.”   Ingrid Smith, Resident-Led Panel member

What the role involves

As a panel member, you’ll:

  • Bring together different resident experiences and perspectives
  • Bring resident feedback into conversations with our teams
  • Challenge decisions and ask questions on behalf of residents
  • Influence how services are designed and delivered
  • Take part in recruiting senior colleagues
  • Make a difference to thousands of residents

The panel can’t speak for every resident, but it helps make sure as many residents as possible can share their views and that they’re taken into account and acted on.

What you need to know

  • You’ll need to be available to meet four times a year and get involved in workshops, meetings and events
  • You don’t need previous experience. You’ll get a full induction in June
  • You’ll be paid £250 every three months, and your expenses will be covered
  • You’ll get regular opportunities to build your understanding of Peabody and the social housing sector, through events and online sessions

The panel has created change, including:

Building colleague knowledge

We’re introducing training for all colleagues during their time with Peabody, so everyone knows how to listen to and work with residents.

Making engagement part of the job

Resident feedback is considered in our everyday work and in colleague objectives.

Improving internal communication

Teams share updates and good ideas across Peabody, so services are more joined up.

Keeping residents informed

We tell residents how their feedback has led to real changes.

A real example: improving our letters

Residents told us we need to improve the way we write to you.

Working through the Resident-Led Panel, residents led a review of Peabody’s letters. Nine residents, including panel members, spent a day looking at more than 40 letters on topics including gas safety visits, antisocial behaviour and rent.

They shared recommendations with senior leaders to make letters clearer and easier to understand. This led to:

  • Training for teams
  • A writing guide
  • Letter templates developed with residents
  • Resident and colleague reviews of key letters

Who can apply?

The panel brings together residents from different backgrounds and experiences. The only requirement is that you are a Peabody resident aged 18 or over.

Guidance to help complete the application form

Here is some guidance to help you feel supported and confident as you complete the application form.

  1. Be yourself, we want to hear your real experiences
You don’t need specialist knowledge or professional experience. The Panel values lived experience, fairness, and a willingness to help improve services for all residents.

  2. Use real examples
When we ask about speaking up, working with others, or helping your community, simple day-to-day examples are absolutely fine. Think about times you have:

       - Helped a neighbour
       - Reported an issue
       - Shared ideas to improve something
       - Supported someone who needed help

  3. Focus on why you care
Your reasons for wanting to join are important; this helps us understand what motivates you and what you hope to bring to the Panel.

  4. It’s okay to mention areas where you want to grow
If there are skills you want to build (like confidence, understanding policies, or reading reports), you can say so. The Panel is a learning space too.

  5. Think about different resident voices
The Panel aims to reflect a range of experiences across Peabody. Tell us how you might listen to and represent others, not just share your own views.

  6. Commitment is important
Meetings happen regularly, so let us know honestly if you can attend and stay engaged.

  7. Ask for help if you need it
If you’re unsure about any part of the form or need support filling it in, we are here to help. Email us at get.involved@peabody.org.uk and we’ll come back to you.
