Peabody in the news

Our Silchester development has won a top award for architecture. The scheme was one of 17 London region winners at the 2018 Civic Trust Awards, which recognise the best in the built environment.

Designed by RIBA Stirling Prize winners Haworth Tompkins Architects, Silchester (below) is located opposite Latimer Road tube station and includes 112 homes (including 45 social rent and 39 shared-ownership), a community space and retail facilities. The scheme is designed around a communal garden, integrating an existing 20-storey tower within a new urban block. A new public mews, Lockton Street, has been created alongside an existing railway viaduct.

Launched in 1959, the Civic Trust Awards is the oldest architectural and built environment awards scheme in Europe and aims to reward projects that offer a positive social, cultural, environmental or economic benefit to their local communities.

The awards judges commented that Silchester is a "fine example of new social architecture. The accommodation tenure mix has been well integrated with great sensitivity".

Angela Epps, Development Director at Peabody said:
"This major regeneration project includes a high proportion of social housing for local people, and has also improved the public realm and created new facilities for existing residents and the wider community. We are pleased to be recognised by the Civic Trust Awards for our ongoing commitment to high quality design."

Fish Island Village makes Planning Awards shortlist

The Lanterna Building, part of our 580-home Fish Island Village Development (below) in Hackney Wick, has been shortlisted for 'Design Excellence' at the 2018 Planning Awards.

Fish Island

Designed by Lyndon Goode Architects, the building is at the entrance to Fish Island Village and features a collection of canal facing apartments, so many residents will be able to enjoy waterside views.

Winners of the Planning Awards will be announced on 6 June.
