Peabody in the news

Find out about Peabody's extensive volunteering programme.

The first week of June was  Volunteers’ Week. This is a chance to celebrate volunteering in all its diversity and is a way of acknowledging the millions of volunteers across the country.

We have a very active volunteering programme here at Peabody which offers volunteers all sorts of of opportunities. For example, during 2017:

  • 1,050 volunteers gave their time towards making a difference in our communities
  • £2.1m – this is the value of the hours put in by our active volunteers towards making a difference in our communities
  • 6,600 – this is the number of hours spent collectively by our volunteers visiting some our most vulnerable residents including older people, those living with disabilities and people experiencing mental health issues.

"I enjoyed meeting people again"

Marcia Peres, above, is a former volunteer who discovered for herself the benefits that volunteering can bring. A Peabody resident for over twenty years, Maria answered her front door to a member of our Outreach Team one day and subsequently went along to a coffee morning to find out more about our employment and training services.

Marcia initially volunteered for our Community team and found the experience worthwhile. She enjoyed meeting new people and going back into a work environment; she also enjoyed making a difference and helping people. Marcia went on to be offered a job at Peabody and is now a PA to one of our Executive Directors. Marcia talks about her experiences in the video above.
