Thamesmead turns 50
The local community came out to celebrate Thamesmead's 50th birthday festival recently.
The festival was held at Southmere lake, close to where the Gooch family, Thamesmead’s first residents, settled 50 years ago.

Festivities began with a carnival from Bishop John Robinson school in North Thamesmead with eight local schools, four community groups and two hundred people taking part.
The festival showcased local talent, great music and local food and craft businesses. Sixteen local businesses kept the crowds well fed in the Community Market Place on Southmere Square. There were also stalls selling fantastic Thamesmead crafts.
To keep everyone entertained, seventeen local musicians, bands and performers took to the Thamesmead’s Got Talent Park Stage
This festival was the biggest event that Thamesmead has hosted for some years. It was a great success and a perfect way to celebrate reaching 50.
