Peabody in the news

Volunteers Week 2017 at Peabody got off to a swinging start.

We showed our appreciation to over 500 Peabody volunteers last week with appreciation lunches, thank you cards, training events and recruitment roadshows. As part of this, our Waltham Forest volunteers enjoyed a round of adventure golf on us.

Marija Vida-Lomakina, Head of Resourcing & HR Business Partner (above wearing a burgundy t-shirt), hosted a Garden Tea Party for older residents at Leander Court sheltered scheme in Lewisham. Close to 10 residents spent time herb planting and then enjoyed the sun over nibbles and tea.

Mary Hulls, Scheme Manager said: “Residents had a chance to come together and enjoy something socially. Especially for our older residents, this is very important and the more we have events like these, the better it is for people in this community."

Working with our partners

Two of our partners, Vinci Facilities and Lift Engineering Services (LES) also helped us mark this national event.

Lift & Engineering Services presents our community foundation with two generous cheques worth just over £20,000 for our community programmes.

Josephine O’Connor, Business & Community Investment Manager at Vinci Facilities, spent time reading to young children at our Reading from the Start Reading Corner in Pembury and LES very generously donated more than £20,000 to volunteer programmes which will make a positive impact for residents of all ages in Peabody communities.

Yolanda-and-MarijaYolanda Sissing, Volunteers Manager (far left) said: “This has been one of our biggest Volunteers Week celebrations to date. Our volunteers have collectively given a significant amount of time, more than 90,000 hours last year, to changing people’s lives and we can’t thank you enough for the incredible passion you show each and every day.

Thank you to the Volunteers Team, Volunteer Supervisors and a special thank you to Vinci Facilities and Lift Engineering Services (LES) for helping us to acknowledge our unsung heroes in such a unique way.”
