Peabody in the news

Peabody employees have helped to spread the spirit of Christmas by donating and gift-wrapping food and toys for households in need.

Every year, Peabody holds a food and toy collection to help some of the most vulnerable people in our society.

Employees donate the food collected to food banks across London and deliver Christmas hampers filled with toys to some of our most-in-need families.

Thanks to the generosity of our employees, contractors and residents visiting our offices, we managed to collect enough food to feed 488 households a total of 4,400 meals.

We’re also delivering 127 Christmas hampers, carefully put together by Peabody volunteer Christmas elves, directly to some of our families in need, making sure children have some wonderful gifts to wake up to on Christmas day.

We also delivered hampers to 52 isolated older people who are experiencing crisis or who will be on their own at Christmas time.

Peabody’s Veronica Kirwan, Director of Community Programmes, said: "Thank you to our sponsors Axis, T-Brown and Vinci, the generosity of our employees and residents across the Peabody Group and the time and efforts of our exceptional volunteers. This will go a long way to making sure our residents are not forgotten at this time of year. We would like to offer all our residents warmest wishes this festive season."

Saving a foodbank

As the use of foodbanks continues to rise, Hackney food bank faced closure over Christmas because empty shelves made it impossible to meet demand. We responded to their call for help by donating a huge amount of food that you donated to our collection, meaning the foodbank will be able to stay open over winter.

Did you know that Peabody is an authorised signatory of foodbank vouchers, so if you know anyone who is in genuine need, meaning:

  1. they have no food, and
  2. they have no money to buy food
