New Community Centre opens at Rosendale
The centre was built in addition to 12 new homes on this estate in Herne Hill.
We recently finished building a state-of-the-art community centre in our Rosendale estate in Herne Hill, south east London. We also completed 12 new homes on the estate.
The new buildings, designed by award-winning architects Haworth Tompkins, complement the existing early 20th-century buildings and local conservation area.
Dulwich and West Norwood MP, Helen Hayes (above), officially opened the new centre at an event organised by residents. She said:
"I think this is such a wonderful moment in the life and history of this estate to see such a fantastic brand new, fit-for-purpose, fully accessible facility, with lots of flexibility to organise so many different things.
It's a relatively rare thing these days, in the context of cuts and austerity we are living in, to see brand new community facilities being opened … it is tremendously fantastic that we have this here today and you all now have the opportunity to do what you are doing to work together as a community."
James Hawton, Development Manager at Peabody said:
"It’s fantastic to see so many residents come together to celebrate the opening of this new building.
"The community is at the heart of the estate and this high-quality new centre will help us work with them to offer projects, events and support services to help people to reach their full potential."
