About Pembury Circus

Pembury Circus was designed by Fraser Brown MacKenna Architects and developed in partnership with Bellway Homes. It is a mixed-use scheme on the corner of the Pembury Estate in Hackney, replacing a block of bedsits that were in poor condition.

The development also includes a nursery, shops, new public square and a brand new community centre featuring a café, meeting rooms and a flexible space for the use of community groups and residents of all ages.

Stephen Howlett, Chief Executive of the Peabody Group said:

“We’re delighted that Pembury Circus has been shortlisted for this prestigious award. This project brings to life our vision of creating a welcoming estate, which includes quality new homes and community facilities, improving accessibility and the environment for the wider community.”

Simon Fraser, Director at Fraser Brown MacKenna Architects said:

“We are delighted to have had the opportunity to design a regeneration project that has contributed to such a significant transformation of the Pembury Estate, both through the high percentage of affordable homes as well as the new community infrastructure, such as the fantastic community centre.

"Placemaking at Pembury Circus involved replacing a dated and unloved space with a development which connects into the surrounding streets and makes a positive contribution to the townscape.”
