Peabody in the news

Kris Hopkins MP visits a 112-home development being built by Peabody, in partnership with the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea.

The visit took place on the same day as two government announcements: new "Growth Deals" to deliver funding for regional infrastructure and housing projects, and the second round of council funding for affordable homes.

Due to be completed in November 2015, the Silchester development, near Latimer Road station, will provide 45 larger properties for social rent, 39 shared ownership, and a further 28 homes for sale on the open market to help pay for the work. There will also be a new shop, community facilities, and landscaped gardens.

We're investing in, and project-managing, the scheme, working closely with the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea who provided the land on the existing Silchester estate.

Representatives from Peabody; the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, including Deputy Leader of the Royal Borough Cllr Rock Feilding-Mellen; and main contractor Mace joined the minister on a site tour.

"We welcome the recognition that housing has received as part of critical infrastructure to support growth, and the latest funding boost to help councils to build more affordable homes in their area," says Jeremy Stibbe, our Executive Director of Development and Sales.

"We’re delighted to be working with the Royal borough to deliver significant numbers of affordable homes in North Kensington. Silchester is a great example of how we’re using our capacity to help local authorities to deliver more housing across all tenures, jobs and community investment."

Councillor Feilding-Mellen says: "I would like to thank Kris Hopkins for coming to see our Silchester development. It is a great example of good design increasing the density of an inner-city site to deliver more homes for both the public and private sector. I am very pleased our work with Peabody will provide these much-needed new homes for local people."
