Cycling Champion

Are you passionate about cycling? Wishing to engage others in your passion? Whether you would like to organise events, fix bikes, marshal races or even set up and run a new cycling group we can support you to volunteer in a role at a level that works for you.

About the role:

  • Engage members of the community in cycling training
  • Build up beginners’ cycling confidence
  • Organise events, fix bikes, marshal races or even set up and run a new cycling group
  • Physical ability for walking, standing, bending, lifting of 5-10 pounds required

Walking Netball Hosts

We are looking for friendly, chatty, approachable people with a great sense of humor to become Walking Netball Hosts, by delivering walking netball sessions within community facilities and care facilities.

About the role:

  • Engage members of the community in Netball training
  • Deliver Walking Netball sessions 
  • Build up beginners confidence
  • Undergo training

Location: Thamesmead, London, SE28

Hours: One session a week for six months, day and times negotiable to suit volunteer and the project

Intergenerational Project Assistant

Interested in light hearted fun with kids and older people? Volunteers will guide pre-school children to our 50+ sheltered scheme where they will have an interactive session.

Volunteers will support during the session with interacting and encouraging both to participate, support with papering light snacks and guide (walk) the children back to the Children’s Centre.

About the role: 

  • Support the nursery kids to walk from Waterways Children Centre to Lakeview Court (10minutes walk either way)
  • Support the older adults to access the group

  •  

    Make light snacks during the group
  • Support the group activities throughout the time

  •  

    Collect data for research when necessary

Location: Thamesmead

Days and hours: Tuesdays 9:00 – 11:30 (term time only) for 3 months

Football Tournament Referee

Interested in working with children and Young people, interested in sports and Football?

This is the perfect mixture of the two. You will have the opportunity to support Primary School children by organising games, matches and activities; refereeing small-sided games; supporting fixtures and collating results.

Hours: One day a week (Thursdays) between 3:30–5:30pm. The placement will run from February to April and April to July

Volunteer Walk Leader

Do you live an active lifestyle, looking to encourage and motivate others to do the same?

Walking for Health is part of England’s largest network of health walk schemes, supporting people to lead a more active lifestyle. We are looking for committed volunteers to support, advice and encouragement our new walkers to build on fitness at a pace that’s right for them.  

About the role: 

  • Deliver Walking Netball sessions 
  • Build up beginners confidence
  • Provide advice and encouragement a new walkers to build fitness at a pace that’s right for them

Location: Thamesmead, London, SE28

Hours: One sessions a week for minimum for 6 months. Hours are flexible and negotiable to suit the volunteer

Environmental Theme Day Coordinator 

Are you organised, interested in event and coordination?

Successful volunteers will liaise with Bexley partners including Schools, Businesses, Volunteer Groups and the Council to assist the coordination for a Family Fun Event on Saturday 1 June.

About the role:

  • Liaising with Peabody and local school contacts to Coordinate Invitations
  • Monitor responses and set up ticketing system for event

  •  

    Organising and setting up event activities
  • Working closely with Bexley Council to coordinate the Children’s University Accreditation Scheme

  •  

    Liaising and booking external bodies such as St John’s ambulance and Bin Bot to ensure key facilities are available
  • P

    romoting the event within the local community

  •  

    Working with Communications team at Bexley Council to assist in design of promotional materials
  • General office administrative support

  •  

    Providing weekly progress updates to key people in project
  • Assisting with Event evaluation and press releases following event

Location: Bexley

Hours: 1 day a week until 14th June 2019 (days and hours are flexible and negotiable to suit the volunteer and the role)

Event Marshalls

Boost your community in various different ways, by supporting our weekly running event from; Setting up, Guiding people in the right direction, Timekeeping and Encouraging and Supporting Participants.

Training will be provided, Volunteers are asked to give back 2 sessions a month for a minimum for 6 months.

About the Role  

  • Helpi set up activities
  • Help participants complete registration and sign-in forms
  • Direct participants to venue and facilities
  • Hand out leaflets and help clear up after event
  • Assist other members of staff with other general tasks
  • Time keeping sports events
  • Encouraging and support participants

Front of House Volunteer

Are you looking for a customer facing opportunity, interested in serving and communication with older people? Precious Health food is looking for someone like you.

About the role:

  • Serve meals/drinks to residents and guests
  • Set up and maintain all food service areas
  • Assist with payment transactions and handle all transactions with diligence, honesty and integrity
  • Ensure that all duties are carried out in accordance with statutory Health and Safety requirements, including food hygiene regulations – training provided
  • Support chef to provide a seamless experience

Days and hours: 2 days a week for 3 months. Hours are flexible and negotiable to suit the volunteer

Kitchen Assistant

Are you creative in the kitchen? Would you like to work on your skills? Why not volunteer as a Kitchen Assistant. Volunteer will assist the chef in providing Lunch / Dinner to residents (over 50 years old) and keep the kitchen clean and tidy.

About the role:

  • Follow instructions on how to use, clean and store away kitchen equipment
  • Keep records of kitchen work completed after each shift in the appropriate book
  • Work as part of a team to store and rotate foods correctly. Prepare foods for future use in a timely manner
  • Support and maintain a high standard of cleanliness and hygiene in the kitchen and dining room area
  • Serve food to customers on a refectory and help ‘set-up’ the hot counter
  • A hands-on attitude and good customer service skills
