Community Project Gardener

We are seeking an immediate experienced Volunteer Community Gardener to support residents.

You'll be working in a friendly and fun environment, sharing your gardening skills and expertise with a small group who are keen to learn. You'll have the opportunity to share your wonderful ideas to help grow the gardening project and get involved in all areas of the project.

The Volunteer Community Gardener will work as part of Peabody’s Gardening Project that support adults with mental health diagnoses and learning difficulties or disabilities. 

  • Supporting set up of Gardening Project and sharing of expertise with regards to purchasing equipment and resources
  • Sharing ideas and vision for the garden space
  • Supporting and overseeing scheme residents participating in the Gardening Project
  • Showing participants how to sow seeds, plant and maintain vegetables and herbs
  • General garden maintenance – weeding, mulching, edging, raking, digging over, staking and tying in, pruning, dead heading, bed preparation, tidying and path maintenance
  • Seasonal propagation and growing
  • Bed installing and renovating
  • Working with Peabody staff and scheme residents with mental health diagnoses
  • Must have gardening knowledge
  • Getting involved with the planning and delivery of innovative activities
  • Freedom to share your ideas and come up with fun ways to engage participants

The successful Volunteer Gardner must be willing to undergo DBS and reference checks.

Location: Vaxhall, London SE11.  

Hours: 10 week programme, one day per week for 4 hours. Days are flexible.

Volunteer Activity Coordinator 

The Volunteer Activity Coordinator role aims to improve the quality of life for customers who are often isolated due to their different levels of support needs. This can lead to poor physical and mental wellbeing and detachment from society. Volunteers can play a big part in improving confidence and providing a link to the outside world through social interaction.

You will be required to: 

  • Support and facilitate socially focused activities and events for up to 75 customers
  • Assist staff to deliver a range of timetabled activities/events
  • Research local support services and professionals who may be able to deliver health & wellbeing workshops or talks
  • Securing accessible venues
  • Ordering refreshments and issuing travel expenses
  • Assisting staff to set up and clear away before and after events and activities
  • You will have the opportunity to work with different people across the business

The successful Volunteer Activity Coordinator must be willing to undergo DBS and reference checks as part of our vetting process.

Location: East Action, London W12. 

Days and hours: Volunteers will be required for 2-3 days a week, hours are flexible and negotiable to suit the volunteer and activities taking place within the service. The placement will last initially for 3 months, with a view of extension depending on success of placement.

Networx Project Leaders Volunteer

The Networx Project Leaders Volunteer will coordinate and run IT sessions for older people in a residential scheme

You will be required to: 

  • Help older people find out about IT services within their community
  • Provide information about the project in the community where there are services for older people
  • Organise/take part in forums and events. Promote the project to centres and organisations who work with older people
  • Plan and run training workshops and offer information to older people
  • Take joint responsibility for updating the leaflets and other materials used throughout the project
  • Provide advice, guidance and motivational support to every participant in the workshop
  • Complete any other duties as may be required

The successful Volunteer Activity Coordinator must be willing to undergo DBS and reference checks as part of our vetting process. 

Location: Deptford, London, SE8. 

Days and hours: Volunteers will be required for 1 day per week for 2 hours. The placement will last for 3 months. Hours are flexible and negotiable to suit the volunteer. Volunteers will have the opportunity to volunteer on Mondays, Wednesdays or Thursdays.
