Volunteer Coordinator

Do you enjoy spending time in community centres? Or perhaps you enjoy meeting people and getting involved in lots of different activities? The Volunteer Coordinator role could be for you!

No two days are ever the same at the Green Man Community Centre. You could be helping at reception, offering administrative support, helping with catering or setting up rooms for meetings, classes and workshops.

Volunteer Coordinators contribute greatly to the local community and have the opportunity to meet new people and gain work experience. Hours are flexible and negotiable to suit you.

Cycling Champion

Are you passionate about cycling? Wishing to engage others in your passion? Whether you would like to organise events, fix bikes, marshal races or even set up and run a new cycling group, we can support you to volunteer in a role at a level that works for you.

Walking Netball Hosts

We are looking for friendly, chatty and approachable people with a great sense of humour to become Walking Netball Hosts. You will deliver walking netball sessions within the community and care facilities.

Intergenerational Project Assistant

Interested in light hearted fun with kids and older people? Volunteers will guide pre-school children to our 50+ sheltered scheme where they will have an interactive session.

Volunteers will support during the session with interacting and encouraging both to participate, support with papering light snacks and guide (walk) the children back to the Children’s Centre.

About the role: 

  • Support the nursery kids to walk from Waterways Children Centre to Lakeview Court (10minutes walk either way)
  • Support older adults to access the group sessions
  • Make light snacks during the sessions
  • Support group activities throughout the time
  • Collect data for research when necessary

Location: Thamesmead

Days and hours: Tuesdays 9–11:30am (term time only) for 3 months

Football Tournament Referee

This is the perfect mixture of the two. You will have the opportunity to support primary school children by organising games, matches and activities, refereeing small games, supporting fixtures and collating results.

Walking for Health is part of England’s largest network of health walk schemes, supporting people to lead a more active lifestyle. We are looking for committed volunteers to support, advice and encouragement our new walkers to build on fitness at a pace that’s right for them.

Environmental Theme Day Coordinator 

Are you organised, interested in event?

Successful volunteers will liaise with Bexley partners including Schools, Businesses, Volunteer Groups and the Council to assist the coordination for a Family Fun Event on Saturday 1 June.

About the role:

  • Liaising with Peabody and local school contacts to coordinate invitations
  • Monitor responses and set up ticketing system for event
  • Organising and setting up event activities
  • Working closely with Bexley Council to coordinate the Children’s University Accreditation Scheme
  • Liaising and booking external bodies such as St John’s ambulance and BinBot to ensure key facilities are available 
  • Promoting the event within the local community
  • Working with Communications team at Bexley Council to assist in design of promotional materials
  • General office administrative support
  • Providing weekly progress updates to key people in project
  • Assisting with Event evaluation and press releases following event

Location: Bexley

Hours: 1 day a week until 14 June 2019 (days and hours are flexible and negotiable to suit the volunteer and the role)

Running Event Marshall 

Boost your community in various ways, by supporting our weekly running event from; Setting up, Guiding people in the right direction, Timekeeping and Encouraging and Supporting Participants.

Training will be provided, volunteers are asked to give back 2 sessions a month for a minimum for 6 months.

About the role:

Could you support someone to achieve their goals? We are looking for volunteers to mentor people with learning disabilities and support them into volunteering roles to set them on a journey towards employment.

Full training is provided - including Level 2 accredited qualification in Mentoring. We are looking for volunteers who can commit to a minimum of three hours per week.

Seniors in Touch (SIT) is a weekly exercise and lunch club for over 50s who are feeling lonely, socially isolated or find it difficult to cook for themselves. We are looking for caring and passionate volunteers to provide a healthy nutritious cooked lunch for older people.

The service gives opportunities for older people to exercise, socialise and enjoy healthy meals with friends. Our volunteers prepare and serve lunch and tidying up after.

Volunteer Community Gardener

We are looking for someone who has gardening expertise to work their magic on the communal garden areas at some of our supported living schemes. 

You will teach our residents how to use gardening equipment safely so that they can sow seeds and plant herbs and vegetables. This role is part of Peabody’s Gardening Project which aims to engage adults with mental health diagnoses and those with learning difficulties and disabilities to spend time in their local gardens.

About the role:

  • Support set up and share advice about buying equipment and resources
  • Share ideas and vision for the garden space
  • Show participants how to sow seeds, plant and maintain garden
  • General garden maintenance – weeding, mulching, pruning, bed preparation, tidying and path maintenance etc
  • Seasonal 
  • Install and renovate garden beds
  • Work with Peabody staff and residents who have mental health diagnoses

Location: Various (Lambeth, East Dulwich or Brixton)

We are looking for a Skills and Hobbies Share volunteer to plan and run fun and social activities.

As a volunteer, you will assist staff to deliver timetabled activities that are meaningful and social. This might include setting-up the activity, taking a register of attendees, making refreshments and providing one-to-one support to members during the session.

We are particularly keen to hear from people who could lead:
