Tenant and family support team
Peabody's tenant and family services team offers a floating support and advice service to tenants and families in general needs accommodation, who are at risk of losing their tenancies or who need extra support to manage their tenancies successfully. We also offer advice and information about services that Peabody and other agencies can offer through the tenant advice line.*
Support and advice service
The support provided by the team is tailored to each individual and/or family circumstance. We start by making an assessment of need for example, tenancy problems, a support need or advice around budgeting. Where more complex issues such as domestic violence, mental health, child protection or alcohol/substance misuse are involved, we will refer to a statutory or specialist agency.
We also have a dedicated family support worker who supports families at risk of losing their tenancies through anti-social behaviour or other difficulties. The family support worker works with the family holistically, to enable them to get through a period of crisis and access the statutory support needed. They also work in a coordinated way with other agencies involved, with the family, to ensure that the needs of the family are met.
How we work
Once we receive a referral, which can be from the tenant direct, any Peabody staff, third party or a tenant advisor will make a home visit and carries out a full assessment of the individual's housing and support needs.
If the assessment concludes that the tenant meets our vulnerability criteria and there is no other support in place, they will be allocated a tenant advisor who will agree an action plan with the tenant. It will set out the goals that need to be achieved to meet the tenant's needs.
When statutory support is already in place, we will not allocate a tenant advisor, but will offer any necessary advice and confirm this in writing.
Generally, ours is an enabling role. We work with tenants for a limited period of time, giving them the initial support they need to resolve the problem(s) at hand and, where longer-term problems exist, we will try to arrange ongoing help.
Each case is treated confidentially, in line with Peabody’s vulnerable residents, privacy and confidentiality and communication needs policies.
