Alterations and improvements

Tenants in social housing can carry out home improvements, but you must get written permission from Peabody first. You need this for any kind of alteration or addition to your home, from installing a new shower or kitchen sink to fitting a satellite dish. This also includes central heating and decorating outside your home. If in doubt, check with Peabody Direct.

We will only refuse permission with good reason, for example, if the work will:

  • make your home less safe
  • reduce your living space
  • increase our maintenance costs
  • break building or planning regulations

We will need to check that the work is carried out to a good standard.

If you want to take an improvement with you when you leave you must put back the original fixture and repair any damage. If you leave the improvement in the home when you move out, you may be entitled to compensation.

If you want to carry out an improvement , please contact Peabody Direct.
