Homeowners
When you buy a Peabody home you do so as a leaseholder. Your lease gives you the right to live in your home for a certain period of time. It is an important legal document, setting out your responsibilities as a leaseholder.
Your lease also sets out Peabody's responsibilities as the freeholder of your property, including the circumstances where we can end your lease.
As set out in your lease, you have to pay ground rent each year and a service charge - your share of the costs of maintaining and insuring the building and the land around it.
In some circumstances you can extend or change your lease. If you want to do this, to make alterations or improvements, end your lease, or are considering subletting or selling your home there are special procedures to be followed, some of them set by law.
