Gateway centre

Gateway centre

The Gateway centre is a community-based project in the London Borough of Southwark. Established in August 2000, the learning centre provides opportunities for people to learn new skills, and get training advice and help with finding a suitable job.

The centre provides excellent training facilities, with no more than 10 candidates per session. We offer expert advice to guide users through a variety of modern learning materials. We use a range of learning methodologies, including a combination of one-to-one and group sessions, easy-to-follow tutorials and presentations, peer support, tutor-led sessions or informal self-led drop-in sessions, where you can study at your own pace.

The staff at Gateway are experienced in delivering training and providing support to those wanting to improve their chances of finding employment, looking to up-skill and become proficient in IT – or those simply wishing to improve their English and maths or expand their life skills through development workshops.

Training is vital in breaking down the barriers to paid employment. The centre aims to address the training needs of a wide range of people. We offer a complimentary range of programmes, including:

  • Computing courses (from basic to intermediate) levels 1 and 2
  • Basic skills (including key skills and functional skills) levels 1 and 2
  • Employment support, including career planning, job-seeking skills and preparation for employment
  • Money advice sessions (by Citizens Advice Bureau)
  • We occasionally run wellbeing programmes and other vocational courses

Our employment and training advisor can offer support with completing application forms, creating professional CVs and interview coaching. All of our courses are accredited and the qualifications we offer are nationally recognised.
