Neighbourhood learning centres
Peabody fights poverty by tackling the root causes – poor education, low or no skills, low aspirations and lack of local advice and support.
Our neighbourhood learning centres offer local, informal training for people who, for whatever reason, find it hard to access mainstream services. Each centre provides IT and basic skills training, advice on employment and further training opportunities, and the chance to learn and network with others in a friendly and encouraging environment.
Training can be designed to a particular learner's needs, although people are required to attend at agreed times so that they get as much as they can from their experience at the centre.
10,000 Londoners have benefited from our community services activities since 1997. The Adult Learning Inspectorate highlighted the programmes as best practice in its annual report for 2002-03 and placed Peabody in the top 13% of education and training providers, identifying us as the only provider delivering excellent job search programmes. In 2007, we received a Grade 2 in the Ofsted inspection.
