In March 2012 we will be celebrating our 150th anniversary. To mark the occasion we have planned lots of events and activities involving our residents and stakeholders, focusing on key stories from past to present-day Peabody.
As part of these celebrations, we are organising an exchange trip to the US for young people between the ages of 14-16 who are (or have been) actively involved in community work or initiatives. The key theme for the exchange will be around 'democracy'.
The young people will visit Peabody Massachusetts, George Peabody’s place of birth, between 27 October and 3 November 2012 and share their experiences with their US counterparts. The democratic theme will be explored further by arranging trips to Washington.
The American Ambassador in London (Peabody’s Honorary President) will also host a group of young people from Peabody Massachusetts. The US students, on their exchange trip, will get to visit Parliament and be part of the 2012 Olympic activities.
The theme for the trip will be based on the following three areas:
-
History of Peabody – our role in London
-
Celebrating Peabody’s 150th anniversary
-
The trip will also be an opportunity for our American counterparts to be a part of London 2012 the city of the Olympic Games, and to see the legacy of the games.
