Earlier this year, five apprentices joined our
estates services team.
Previously unemployed, they had been attending the
Hugh Cubitt centre in King’s Cross, where they were being advised about gaining
employment and training. They were subsequently offered roles with Peabody as environmental
caretakers or trainee environmental caretakers.
The apprentices on their first day – before they received their uniforms – with Tony Molloy,

Tachbrook resident Judith
Larkin was part of the interview panel. She says: "I was
very pleased to be asked to help with the interviews for trainee caretakers. I
feel the ones who were chosen will be an asset to the caretaking teams.
Caretakers do a great job keeping our estates clean and tidy."
We are hoping to involve
more residents in the selection process in the future. Tony Molloy, Peabody’s head of estate
services said: “It’s great bringing
apprentices into caretaking services, the enthusiasm they bring creates a buzz.
The feedback is that residents want to see apprentices on their estates
and they have been involved in apprentice customer services training and
apprentice recruitment – the reception has been fantastic.”
The apprenticeship course lasts ten months.
