Peabody is participating in this year’s National Digital Conference at Old Billingsgate. The two-day conference, starting from today, will be about the role social landlords can play supporting neighbourhoods online.
We believe all Peabody residents should have the opportunity to get online. As well as providing facilities such as computer-equipped community centre’s and free local Wi-Fi networks, we're also piloting schemes for residents covering the basics of using a computer and getting online.
During workshops sessions at the conference topics will explore how this support can create more connected, happier neighbourhoods. Key themes of the workshops will include:
- How technology can help create better resourced neighbourhoods.
- How social landlords can use technology to engage with residents.
- How technology and internet can empower communities and encourage greater participation in public and social life.
Day 1 of the conference will focus on the work of the UK’s digital champions - thanking and celebrating the work they do as well as hearing their inspiring and motivating stories.
Special guest appearances and speeches will be made by the Prime Minister, Martha Lane Fox, UK’s Digital Champion and Mark Thompson of the BBC.
Peabody’s Chief Executive Steve Howlett and Stephen Burns, Director of New Business will also be guest speaker at the event.
