Planning for Islington Greenman Street

Thanks to everyone who attended the recent Islington Greenman Street/Peabody 150th anniversary event — it was great to share the proposed designs and hear your views on how to improve the outdoor spaces on the estate.

We recognise the current layout doesn't offer many opportunities for residents to meet, hold events, or develop interests in gardening or food growing, which is why we want to make improvements through our IMPROVE programme.


We wanted to test out the concept of playable natural features, such as wooden structures and slides (pictured right), and we hope that these — along with the food, music, massage, and bouncy castle — made your day a fun one.

Your feedback will now be used to finalise designs, which will be sent to all residents for final comments before we submit a planning application.

Islington Greenman Street is one of our older estates, considered by English Heritage to be of "seminal historic importance", with several Grade II listed blocks. 

Ahead of any refurbishment works, we were asked by Islington Council's Conservation Team to commission an archaeological report on the area.

This has now been published, and offers a fascinating insight into 19th-century Islington.
