Situated on the Silchester Garages site near Latimer Road tube station, the scheme has been designed by award winning architects Haworth Tompkins, and will provide 45 homes for social rent with an emphasis on providing large family homes and another 39 for shared ownership. The remaining 28 homes will be smaller properties for outright sale.
The scheme will also provide a new community building and retail space and landscaping improvements to enhance the wider estate.
Peabody, which was selected by the Council following a 12 month procurement process, aims to complete the scheme by summer 2014. It will receive a grant of £2,925,000 from the Council, financed from the sale of part of another site on Holland Park School.
The development will help the Council meet its targets for the delivery of new housing of all tenures in the borough. It will also contribute to the regeneration of the Latimer area through improved urban design and a more balanced tenure mix.
Stephen Howlett, Peabody Chief Executive, said: “We’re delighted to have been selected by Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea to deliver this scheme. We look forward to working with local residents and the Council to deliver desirable, 21st century Peabody homes."
Councillor Timothy Coleridge, the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea’s Cabinet Member of Housing, said: “Good quality affordable housing is in great demand in the borough and this development will help to address this need. I am very pleased that we have been able to select Peabody to develop these much needed homes in North Kensington.”
