Peabody, Riverside, Santander take 'tale of two cities' to party conferences

23 September 2011

Two major providers of social housing, Peabody and Riverside, together with Santander, one of the biggest providers of finance to housing associations in the UK, are taking a fringe event to the Liberal Democrat, Labour and Conservative party conferences.

The event, called A Tale of Two Cities, provides a snapshot assessment of the impact of the housing reform agenda in two major cities, London and Liverpool.

Stephen Howlett, Peabody Chief Executive, said:

“There is a huge need for new homes in London. We are committed to tackling the challenge, and we are doing our best to make the government’s plans work. However, we do have concerns about the sustainability of the new framework. What effect will higher rents linked to market levels have on London’s social and economic wellbeing? How will the housing sector cope with an increased financial risk profile? These are important questions which we will be debating at each fringe event.”
