18 March 2011

Peabody has been recognised by the Sustainable Homes Index For Tomorrow benchmark (SHIFT) with a Silver Award for 2010/11.

The SHIFT awards recognise the most environmentally forward thinking social housing providers in the UK.

Launched in 2008 by environmental agency Sustainable Homes, SHIFT was developed in partnership with WWF-UK, Homes and Communities Agency, Tenant Services Authority and the UK Green Building Council.

Stephen Howlett, Peabody Chief Executive, said:

“SHIFT is proving to be an invaluable benchmark of the housing sector's progress on sustainability. We're delighted to receive a Silver Award in recognition of our efforts so far. We’ll continue to work towards ensuring our workplaces, existing homes and new homes are truly sustainable.”

Colin Butfield, Campaign Director at WWF said:

“SHIFT drives organisations to reduce their carbon emissions, adapt to climate change and engage with residents. WWF congratulates all these organisations for being at the forefront of sustainability.”

Pat Ritchie, Chief Executive of the HCA, added her support:

“Environmental sustainability is vitally important. I am encouraged to see that our housing association partners recognise the importance of their role and the impact of their work in this field.”
