Peabody gets vote of confidence from regulator

07 April 2010

The Tenants Service Authority (TSA) has just announced the results of its latest health check on Peabody – and it’s encouraging news.

Housing regulatory authority, the TSA, has just released its latest assessment on Peabody.

This regulatory judgement has been produced following a review of Peabody’s financial performance in November 2009 and a Short Notice Inspection conducted by the Audit Commission in December 2009.

The report measures Peabody’s performance on three criteria and considers whether the organisation is:

  • Viable
  • Properly governed and
  • Properly managed - service delivery

Following a thorough analysis, TSA's overall verdict is that "[Peabody] is viable and has satisfactory governance and service delivery arrangements. It faces the challenge of improving the repairs service and our judgement is that Peabody is able to meet that challenge."

As a consequence of improvements to Peabody’s financial position, the TSA has upgraded its previous Regulatory Judgement, dated March 2009.

The TSA also observed that "As part of its efforts to modernise, Peabody has revised its mission which is supported by clear business plan objectives and challenging performance measures."

Peabody CEO Stephen Howlett said:

"We’re pleased with the Tenant Service Authority's upgraded judgement. It recognises the significant progress we have made over the past five years, and is a strong vote of confidence for the steps we are taking to drive further improvements in the services we provide to residents. The TSA believe we will be successful in our efforts." Peabody was set up in 1862 and is a charity and regeneration agency. It registered with the Housing Corporation in 1974 and owns almost 17,500 homes.
