Everyone had a great time at the Ministry of Sound M.A.D. (Making A Difference) youth festival last Wednesday, 25 August.
The event, which was free and open during the day from 12 noon to 6pm, was well attended by lots of enthusiastic young people aged between 11 to 19.
They took part in workshops on fashion, music, journalism, health, well-being, streetdance and Capoeira (a form of martial arts and dance) and called at stalls offering advice on youth training, education and employment.
They also watched performances from top music artists including The Marvel Boys, Princess Nyah and Devlin.
Teenager Jacob Bernard Bantom (above) went along to try his hand at DJing and was pleased with what he found. He said "I’ve learned lots ... this is what I want to get into. It’s great to have the opportunity to give it a go with a professional to help you."
M.A.D was set up to raise young people’s aspirations, promote their independence and celebrate their achievements. It is led by Viridian Housing in partnership with L&Q, Wandle, Croydon Churches, Amicus Horizon, Hexagon, Hyde plus, Family Mosaic, Peabody, Southwark Police and Asda.
Sharon Barbour, Peabody's Youth & Extended Services Manager, worked with M.A.D to organise the event.
She said: "The range of workshops meant that there was something for everyone, from fashion design to streetdance.
"Our youth apprentices joined volunteers helping out at the event, ensuring everything ran smoothly. There was lots of interest in the Peabody information stall, with young people of all ages registering for our youth projects and finding out about the opportunities Peabody offers.
"Overall, it was a really inspiring event and we were proud to represent Peabody."
