London Well-being Conference 2012: Better Together

03 January 2012

Delegates from London's social housing, health and well-being sectors will explore well-being and social housing at Peabody's third annual London Well-Being Conference, due to take place on 9 February.

The conference will focus on how London's social housing communities can respond to challenges such as unemployment, crime and reduced funding for community programmes.

Key conference themes include:

  • Empowering communities: resident-led action and new models of working
  • Connecting communities: digital inclusion
  • Strengthening communities: local solutions for local issues

RSA Chief Executive Matthew Taylor, who is chairing the conference, said:

"In an age when many of us are leading longer, happier and more productive lives, why has the health and well-being of a small but significant number of UK citizens remained so low? Amongst this disadvantaged group, those living in social housing and older people feature highly, with high levels of poverty and health inequalities.

"This year's conference will consider how, through locally developed initiatives, we can inspire and support social housing residents to make positive choices that improve their well-being."

Speakers at the conference include Peter Wanless, Big Lottery Fund Chief Executive; Stephen Howlett, Peabody Chief Executive; Baroness Newlove, Champion for Active and Safer Communities; Mark Easton, BBC Home Editor; and Will Perrin, Director, Talk About Local.
