Lunch clubs usually provide a hot meal and offer social support for older people - a cheap dish for residents on low incomes, served at a warm and safe location. Usually, that is good enough because that has been the standard.
But Peabody has set about changing that standard because they believe older people in the community deserve better. That is why we transformed the old Lomond House luncheon club, Southwark, to become what is now known as the Lomond Centre community cafe.
The cafe has moved away from a rigid system. It now provides all Southwark locals with a cafe-style dining experience. With an interior redesign, improved menu, more efficient system of serving meals and better access for older and disabled customers, the Lomond Centre community cafe now provides a one stop lunch-time shop for the older members of Southwark (aged 50 plus).
