On October 4 between 1 and 3 pm, thousands of people will join together in Trafalgar Square in a bid to end child poverty in the UK.
One in three children live in poverty in the UK today and the damaging effects on society are plain to see. The government made a promise to halve child poverty by 2010 and end it by 2020. Although progress has been made and 600,000 children have been lifted out of poverty since 1997, this progress has now stalled and the Government is not on track to meet the target.
The 2009 budget is the last realistic chance for the Government to meet the 2010 target and keep alive its promise to end child poverty. Join the Keep the Promise campaign on Saturday October 4 and help demand a better future for all our children.
