Peabody has affirmed its commitment to prevent and effectively tackle anti-social behaviour in London communities by signing up to the Respect ASB Charter for Housing.
The Charter, which replaces the Respect Standard for Housing Management introduced by the government in 2006, has been developed by the Chartered Institute of Housing, HouseMark and the Social Landlords Crime and Nuisance Group following wide consultation with landlords, tenants and communities. It consists of seven key commitments designed to improve ASB services:
- Demonstrating leadership and strategic commitment
- Providing an accessible and accountable service
- Taking swift action to protect communities
- Adopting a supportive approach to working with victims and witnesses
- Encouraging individual and community responsibility
- Having a clear focus on prevention and early intervention
- Ensuring a value for money approach is embedded in the service
By signing up to the Charter, housing associations are making public their commitment to provide a high quality ASB service, and their accountability to residents for its delivery. An important requirement is that they must consult with residents about what the Charter means, locally, for them and the services they expect.
Liz Chambers, Peabody Community Safety Team Manager, said:
“We’re proud to add our support to the Respect Charter. It will be put to good use as we continue to work with safer neighbourhood teams, local authorities and Peabody residents across London to ensure our communities are safe, peaceful places to live. We look forward to seeing other housing associations signing up in the weeks ahead.”
