It’s time to celebrate our Hackney Host volunteers!

03 June 2011

A group of Hackney’s 2012 volunteer force, the Hackney Hosts, will be hosting a party to celebrate the contributions volunteers make in the borough. The Hosts will also get a chance to showcase and promote the work they have been doing, as 2012 Champions, in the lead up to the 2012 Games.

On the morning of the event volunteers will get to meet other volunteers and engage with people from local charities within Hackney and find out about volunteering opportunities in their local community.

The afternoon will involve volunteers taking part in a competitive mini Spots vs. Stripes event, facilitated by Universal Board Games, which involves playing board games.

To top it off a BBQ lunch will be provided for the Hackney Hosts who also get to take advantage of the free massages given by Activate London.

The celebration event is happening on Tuesday 7 June at Gillet Square, Hackney, from 11am-2pm.

Partner organisations, working with Peabody, such St Joseph’s Hospice, Universal Board Games and people from Peabody led projects like Threads will be there to promote what they do and generate more interest among the community.

Can I just turn up?
The event is open to everyone – just turn up on the day and get involved. For more information about the event contact our volunteer coordinator, email:your.time@peabody.org.uk.

Would you like to become a volunteer?
By this summer, Hackney Council, which runs the Hackney Hosts programme with Peabody, will have recruited 100 residents - volunteers who will become well known in the borough during the lead up to the 2012 Games.

The Hosts receive free training in first aid, presentation skills and knowledge about the Games, and will be supported to find work. Many of the hosts have also chosen to become 2012 Champions, helping to promote the ethos of the Games and Games-related activities within their own communities.

If you are interested in becoming a Hackney Host volunteer contact our volunteer coordinator, email:your.time@peabody.org.uk.
