Government issues guidance on squatters

11 November 2010

There are nearly 20,000 squatters in the UK. It is an offence for a squatter to break into a home and to fail to leave when asked to do so by law – and Peabody and the police can take action against squatters.

The Department of Communities and Local Government and the Ministry of Justice have produced some helpful guidance for tenants and homeowners to make them aware of their rights where a property has been unlawfully occupied.

For more information on how we deal with squatters or for help with taking action contact Peabody Direct.
