This month every home in the UK must take part in the census – we're all required to take part by law. The census is a way of capturing information about the population. It helps central and local government, health authorities and other organisations plan housing, education, health and transport services. Funding for your local services may depend on the answers you give. That’s why it’s important everybody fills it in.
Census Day is Sunday 27 March. When you fill in your census form, you must give information about everybody living or staying in your home on that date. However, you can complete and return your census form before Census Day itself.
You should already have received your census form by post. You’ll recognise it when it arrives by its purple 2011 census logo. You can complete it online if you like by following the link below – but you’ll need your individual internet code, which is on the front of the questionnaire.
There’s plenty of extra help available, including British Sign Language (BSL) video, audio and Braille guides, large print questionnaires, translation guides and an Easy Read booklet. Visit the 2011 census website and choose “how do I get help?” for more information.
