Liz Chambers, Peabody Head of Community Safety and Support, looks back over a year of achievements, new initiatives and challenges for Peabody’s Community Safety team.
Respect
Peabody was proud to be part of the national steering group that developed the Respect ASB Charter for Housing launched in June 2011. The Charter is a way for housing associations to demonstrate their commitment to tackling ASB and working with residents to deliver excellent ASB services.

We're committed to working with residents to make our communities safer
Continuous improvement
We’re now ranked in the top quartile of g15 housing associations for dealing with ASB. We’re not resting on our laurels though. We’re closely following other housing associations and providers to learn from their good ideas and continue to improve our service.
London disturbances
We completed a review of our response to the disturbances in August which struck many parts of England, including London. We’ve also been meeting local authorities to take forward learning points.
Tackling domestic abuse
We’re offering training to other housing providers on best practice for tackling domestic abuse and supporting victims and families.
Strengthening Families, Strengthening Communities
We successfully delivered an inspirational parenting skills programme for families and parents. Courses are planned for residents in Hackney and Islington in early 2012. Read more here.
Peabody’s Witness Support Promise
We worked closely with residents to develop Peabody’s Witness Support Promise, our commitment to provide support, advice and guidance for people who act as witnesses against perpetrators of ASB on their estate.
Government consultations
We’re committed to taking part in the debate in how ASB is tackled both in London and nationally. This year we took part in government consultations on ASB tools and powers and mandatory possession. We’ll continue to follow announcements and developments closely.
