Changes to our tenancy agreements

25 January 2010

We have finished updating our tenancy agreements and we are preparing to send documents to you early in 2010. This applies to all residents except for those living on the King's Cross, Pembury and Strawberry Vale estates.

We updated the agreements after carrying out a consultation last year. This involved sending out draft copies of the revised agreements to all residents and asking for feedback on the proposed changes. Around 3,000 of you responded to the consultation and we read and considered every comment. The vast majority of you said you understood the proposed changes. Very few of you who responded (less than 2%) objected in principle to any changes to the agreement.

We believe that the proposed new terms and conditions are easier to read and understand. We have also added items that reflect best practice and meet our current legal and regulatory obligations.

Secure tenants
If you’re a secure tenant, you will be given two copies of the notice of variation to your tenancy conditions. You will receive these during January or February 2010.

If you are not at home when we deliver the copies, we’ll post one copy through your letterbox and stick the other to the outside of your door. We’re required to do this under your existing terms and conditions. (Under your new terms, if we have to serve notices in the future, we’ll be able deliver them by hand or by post.)

Assured tenants
If you’re an assured tenant, you will receive two copies of your new tenancy conditions in January or February 2010. You’ll need to sign both copies and return one to us.

Whether you’re a secure tenant or an assured tenant, we’ll need to deliver the documents to you at least 28 days before the new tenancy conditions take effect. We’ll deliver them before the end of February so the new terms come into force on Monday 5 April 2010.

If you have any questions about the changes, you can call Peabody Direct on (020) 7021 4444 or 0800 022 4040 (free from landlines). You can also contact us by email.
