CBeebies star and local resident Katy Ashworth will help launch our Literacy Champions Programme on Monday 15 October.
The Literacy Champions programme connects community volunteers with local families with children aged two to five, who would benefit from advice about supporting their children’s early literacy development by:
- engaging volunteers in promoting the importance of literacy, empowering local people within their communities
- empowering parents to find ways of supporting their own children’s learning, by increasing parents’ awareness, confidence and day-to-day interaction with their children
- improving children’s early literacy skills, helping them to reach their potential
When?
Monday 15 October, 4pm-5pm
Where?
Our Hugh Cubitt Centre, King's Cross
Through one-to-one sessions in our Hugh Cubitt Centre and other locations, Literacy Champions encourage parents and carers to make sharing books and talking with their children part of their daily lives; promoting the importance of the home learning environment and giving practical, fun ideas for parents to support their children’s learning.
"As a local resident Katy has expressed an interest in supporting our work at Hugh Cubitt, it’s great that she is able to help us with brilliant project", said Nick Guest, Hugh Cubitt Centre Administrator.
