Black History Month has been celebrated across the UK every October for over 30 years, each year growing from strength to strength. Black History Month is a time when we highlight and celebrate the achievements of the black community and uncover hidden history about our communities.
The Imperial War Museum are holding family workshops for Black History Month.
Date: Monday 26 October to Friday 30 October
Time: 1pm-4pm.
Admission: free for all families (children must be accompanied by an adult)
During the afternoon you can take part in the drop-in sessions and discover personal stories of African, Asian and Caribbean servicemen and women in the Second World War
Black History walking tour of New Cross and Deptford
Journalist, broadcaster and historian Steve Martin will lead a walk revealing the hidden histories of black people in New Cross and Deptford.
At the end of the tour, interested participants will be escorted to a story telling event in New Cross library.
The tour starts at 439 New Cross Road, SE14 6AS
Time: 1.30pm-3.15pm
Cost: £2, (concession £1), children under five go free, under 14s must be accompanied by an adult
