Art Cellar-bration event

03 June 2011

The Arts Cellar-bration event will showcase the creative works of local residents and students produced, over the past six months, at Bruce House. Their talents extend to writing, photography, music and more.

Not only will they get to see some of the fantastic work produced, they’ll also get to meet the people involved in creating it and hear their stories.

The exhibits include photography and digital imaging, life writing, art and drawing. There will also be performances in the form of drama, reading from the life writing session and music (On Track).

The event takes place on Wednesday 15 June, from 4.30pm-6.30pm at the Bruce House Centre, Kemble Street, London, WC2B 4AW.

A special unveiling
Those attending will be lucky enough to see the unveiling of a memorial plaque for John Alfred Broom – a Peabody resident and generous donor to community services.

The Arts Cellar is a project funded by Coutts & Co and offers people the chance explore their potential through a number of arts-based activities which helps them gain the skills and confidence they need to take up employment. It also addresses social exclusion and supports the development of individual’s holistic skills including communication, confidence and self esteem. Once engaged employment staff find out what the individuals career aspirations are and work closely with them to develop work skills and look for appropriate job opportunities.

To date the programme has engaged around 130 individuals of whom 40% have resulted in a positive interaction and progression into Re-connect a Peabody Work Skills programme.
