A plain English guide to the Localism Bill

19 January 2011

The Communities and Local Government Department (CLG) has published a new plain English guide to the Localism Bill, which sets out the main proposals and changes in plain, easy-to-understand language. The guide describes the main measures of the Localism Bill under the following headings.

  • new freedoms and flexibilities for local government
  • new rights and powers for communities and individuals
  • reform to make the planning system more democratic and more effective
  • reform to ensure that decisions about housing are taken locally

The Localism Bill has received a second reading in Parliament as is due to be implemented in April this year. To find out more or to download a copy of the guide, go to http://www.communities.gov.uk/publications/localgovernment/localismplainenglishguide.
