Mercato Metropolitano, Borough Triangle

Visit the new Italian food market at Borough Triangle.

We’re working in partnership with Mercato Metropolitano to bring their urban street food market concept to the UK for the first time, by creating a “meanwhile project” (a temporary “pop up” initiative that uses empty space to benefit the community) at our Borough Triangle site.

The site is open Tuesday to Sunday, 11am-11pm and it includes a bakery, butcher, fishmonger, coffee roaster, cheesemonger and of course, pasta makers! There is also a large supermarket selling produce from southern Italy, and an outdoor street food area with stalls selling Japanese, Argentinian, British, French, Spanish and Vietnamese food.

As well as hosting events, the site features a barbershop, boxing gym, a cookery school and shared working space. There’s also a cinema room and a community vegetable garden.

Supporting local communities

Not only will this be a fantastic destination for families and friends to come and enjoy food and entertainment, but our partnership will also mean new job opportunities, educational offerings, and other community benefits for local people.

Dominic Lake, co-founder of Mercato Metropolitano said: “Mercato Metropolitano was created to remind people what real food is and to show that it is possible to enjoy delicious food that is good for us. In truth, success will really involve changing habits around eating, and ultimately the happiness of our local community and those that come to visit.”

Veronica Kirwan, Director of Community Programmes said: “We’re excited to welcome Mercato Metropolitano to our Borough Triangle site. Peabody’s social purpose and focus on wellbeing fits perfectly with Mercatoʼs approach.”
