New homes for Lambeth
Homes and a community centre for Lambeth estate.
We've been given planning consent to build 12 new homes and a state-of-the-art community centre on our Rosendale Road estate in Lambeth.
Designed by the award-winning architects Haworth Tompkins, the development will utilise under-developed land on the estate, providing a mix of 3-bed houses, 2-bed flats, and a 1-bed adapted property. The new £500,000 community hall at the heart of the scheme will become a vibrant hub for the whole neighbourhood.
Local residents have welcomed the consent for the development, which will complement the existing early 20th-century buildings and local conservation area.
Work starts in October
"We are delighted to be providing new homes with first-class design and sustainability principles at Rosendale," said James Hawton, Peabody Development Manager. "The community centre is a key part of the scheme, and we look forward to starting work in October. I’m also pleased that residents and councillors have backed our proposals which will benefit the whole neighbourhood."
Susan Morgan, Chair of Peabody West Dulwich Tenants Association (including Rosendale Estate), said: "We are happy that planning permission has been granted for this much needed community facility which will provide a range of events and activities for both Peabody residents and for the greater community in the Rosendale Road area of Lambeth."
Cllr Pete Robbins, Cabinet member for Housing and Regeneration, said: "I welcome this revised plan to build a new community centre and extra homes on the Peabody Estate in Herne Hill.
"Peabody has worked hard with residents and the council to ensure the scheme fits in well with its surroundings and it will provide much needed new affordable family homes for Lambeth residents.”
