Sundial Centre
Funded jointly by Peabody, London Catalyst and the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, the Sundial centre provides an integrated mix of health, day care, social and educational services in a comfortable and informal atmosphere.
The centre is located at the heart of a diverse community and aims to tackle isolation and promote good health by involving the local community in decision making, and breaking down barriers preventing access to necessary services.
Sundial works with a wide range of organisations (such as Life Long Learning, local arts organisation 'Magic Me' and the Department of Work and Pensions) to deliver a diverse programme under one roof, including:
- Link Age Plus network centre
- drop-in resource centre dedicated to meeting the needs of the local community aged 25 and over with an emphasis on services for people 50 and over. We run a range of activities such as art, women-only keep fit, tai chi, line dancing, advice services, art classes and many more.
- user led activities and volunteering opportunities - such as becoming a member of the Sundial users management committee Senior Age (S.AGE) or leading on a support group such as Arthritis Support Group
- hair and beauty salon - open Wednesdays and Thursdays
- social events - everything from visiting theatre shows to celebrations of religious festivals like Eid
- health care - the community dentist, holistic therapists, hearing aid service and chiropodist visit regularly. We also run an expert patients programme
- daycare - for people over 65 referred by Tower Hamlets Social Services. Personal care services, like assisted bathing and hairdressing, are also available.
